Tips for calculating the optimal tablecloth size
The size of a
tablecloth is determined by measuring the tabletop and then adding an overhang
of about 20–30 cm on each side. These dimensions serve as general guidelines and can, of course,
be adjusted to taste – depending on whether a longer or shorter drop is preferred.
You first measure the length and width (or diameter) of the table. Then you add 20 to 30 cm
of overhang per side, i.e. a total of 40 to 60 cm to both length and width.
For a rectangular table measuring 100 × 200 cm, this results in a tablecloth of approximately 140 × 240 cm.
For round tables, the diameter is extended by 40 to 60 cm accordingly.
An overhang of 20–30 cm looks elegant and ensures that the tablecloth drapes nicely
without getting in the way when seated.
